"He provided redemption for His people; He ordained His covenant forever -- holy and awesome is His name." ~Psalm 111:9
Our last evening with Sunny Moon before she flies back to Seoul (and yes, that is her name). Besides chocolate fondue and a good hearty round of "Apples to Apples" (a moment here to make a note for my family: no one in this group went for any of my cards either... should I change my tactics? Haha), we had a great evening as ISI staff and housemates prayed together over Sunny "sending her off." This truly is the hardest part about ISI and ICF, though -- having to say goodbye constantly. But, hearts are joined together for eternity as the Kingdom continues to advance throughout the nations. And that is exciting.
“And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” (1 Cor 2:1-5)That Jesus alone would be high and exalted tonight. I'm echoing a poem penned by C.S. Lewis, which was sent to my email earlier this week:
From all my lame defeats and oh! much more
From all the victories that I seemed to score;
From cleverness shot forth on Thy behalf
At which, while angels weep, the audience laugh;
From all my proofs of Thy divinity,
Thou, who wouldst give no sign, deliver me.
Thoughts are but coins. Let me not trust instead
Of Thee, their thin-worn image of Thy head.
From all my thoughts, even from my thoughts of Thee,
O thou fair Silence, fall, and set me free.
Lord of the narrow gate and the needle's eye,
Take from me all my trumpery lest I die.
"Heaven understands hell and hell does not understand heaven... To project ourselves into a wicked character, we have only to stop doing something and something we are already tired of doing; to project ourselves into a good one we have to do what we cannot and become what we are not."In order to write this, Lewis had to have an understanding of Romans 1, which teaches that evil is within as a result of sin. And apart from Christ, there is no good thing within me. "BUT God in His mercy" sent His Son, and it is because Christ came that I may "do what [I] cannot and become what [I am] not."
"Surely You desire truth in the inner parts; You teach me wisdom in the inmost place... Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." (Psalm 51)
The ladies of the ISI House decided to go out for Indonesian food in the Northgate area (the real deal -- not the inauthentic Americanized type) tonight before Pamela’s mom and sister fly back to
LORD GOD ALMIGHTY,~The Valley of Vision. "Reconciliation." p.45
Thou art beforehand with men
for Thou hast reconciled Thyself to the world through the cross,
and dost beseech men to accept reconciliation.
It is my responsibility to grasp the overtures of grace,
for if Thou, the offended party, act first
with the word of appeasement,
I need not call in question Thy willingness to save,
but must deplore my own foolish maliciousness;
If I do not come to Thee as one who seeks Thy favor,
I live in contempt, anger, malice, self-sufficiency,
and Thou dost call it enmity.
Thou hast taught me the necessity of a Mediator, a Messiah,
to be embraced in love with all my heart,
as King to rule me,
as Prophet to guide me,
as Priest to take away my sin and death,
and this by faith in Thy beloved Son who teaches me
not to guide myself,
not to obey myself,
not to try to rule and conquer sin,
but to cleave to the one who will do all for me.
Thou hast made known to me
that to save me is Christ's work,
but to cleave to him by faith is my work,
and with this faith is the necessity of my daily repentance
as a mourning for the sin which Christ by grace has removed.
Continue, O God, to teach me
that faith apprehends Christ's righteousness
not only for the satisfaction of justice,
but as unspotted evidence of Thy love for me.
Help me to make use of His work of salvation as the ground of peace,
and of Thy favor to, and acceptance of me the sinner,
so that I may live always near the cross.
